Mika Abbott

Mika Abbott is a photographer and printmaker born in Regina, Saskatchewan and considers herself to be a process artist, particularly when engaging with photo-based work. Her work is informed by female identity, gender roles, memory and how memory influences our current understanding of self.

A BFA 2020 graduating student, Mika focused her cyanotype explorations using found and re-purposed plastics, as she inquires in to issues of global warming, consumerism, and the ecology.

Mika has been inspired by a handful of artists including Odette England, Vivian Maier, Yoko Ono, Barbara Kruger, Henri Mattise. Additionally, her life and her practice has been greatly shaped by a religious upbringing and a strong passion for political activism and social justice.
