Garett Harnish

Garett Harnish is a photographer and works at the University of Regina as a programmer analyst. He also studies History, German, and Visual Arts and has a degree in Mathematics and Computer science.

Of the cyanotype process, he writes:

I fell in love with the blue of Cyanotypes while making blueprints in high school for my architecture and drafting class.   There is something magical about placing trace paper, a negative or even a object on a piece of coated paper, flashing it with some UV light and suddenly having an image emerge when you rinse it in water.  This class taught me a lot and I found it really enjoyable; especially the work with digital negatives.   I wish I'd had more time to finish refining The Dancing In The Rain series as well as doing some more toning and experimentation with different types of paper.  It is amazing how much of an effect paper has on the tonality of the final print.  This whole process of combining old techniques with modern technology appeals to me -- I have a great love of both history and modern technology -- and I look forward to continuing my experiments in this medium.
